2015 NFL Mock Draft: With the Sixth Pick, The New York Jets Select...

With the sixth pick in the 2015 BRB Mock Draft, the New York Jets select Marcus Mariota (QB--Oregon).

Jets, Jets, Jets…

This is a team truly mired in Quarterback Hell. Really, what else can you be in when the career of your most recent "franchise" QB is summed up in this one play?

The Jets have moved on from Mr. Buttfumble. Their current stable of quarterbacks consists of Geno Smith and Matt Simms, as well #HoboQB Ryan Fitzpatrick.

The "best" quarterback in this year’s class, Jameis Winston, is long gone. I put best in quotes because I am not really sure how good Winston will ultimately be. Personally, I have my doubts that he can put it together and be a true franchise QB. However, of the two quarterbacks expected to go in the first round, Winston is the one who is most likely to be able to start soon since he played in a pro-style offense.

Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Jets stick with Smith a little longer, with Fitzpatrick as the backup and mentor. But I’m going to assume their new FO decides to cut ties sooner rather than later and move on to their own players.

Therefore, the New York Jets are selecting Marcus Mariota with their first-round pick this year. The only reason I make this move is because they have a viable stop-gap in Fitzpatrick, who can start this year and possibly another year or two, while Mariota learns how to be a NFL quarterback. I would absolutely not take Mariota without a good vet to put in front of him. I also would not have selected him first overall.

In my own estimation, I am probably reaching on Mariota a bit but, if he’s made it to me here, I shouldn’t tempt fate that he will make it to me on a trade back. This may well wind up being a bad decision in the long run, but I think it is a reasonable gamble for this franchise this year.

If Mariota makes it to number six, I don't see any way the Jets don't take him. In fact, there are rumors (*cough* PFT *cough*) that the Jets might even trade up for Marcus, so this pick seems incredibly likely should things play out like they have in this highly scientific BRB Mock Draft.

Like WotanTX, I'm not 100% sold on Mariota as an NFL QB...but I'm pretty close. He's certainly a safer bet than any of the other non-Winston QBs in this draft.
