Better Playoff Format: NFL or NBA?

New, comments

With the Houston Rockets set to play Game 7 against the Los Angeles Clippers today, it's as good a time as any to examine whether the NBA has the NFL beat when it comes to the way the playoffs are done.

Given who's on the receiving end, if you didn't think I'd jump all over the opportunity to use this picture, you don't know me very well.

Today at 2:30 p.m. CDT, the Houston Rockets host the Los Angeles Clippers in what just days ago seemed to be a wholly improbable Game 7. That, along with the dearth of NFL news at the moment, got me thinking.

Which professional sports league does the playoffs better? The NFL, with its single elimination, win-or-go-home format? Or the NBA, with its "Best of Seven," win-four-times-or-go-home format? There are undoubtedly pros and cons of both, and the collision-centric nature of football likely makes a playoff series in the NFL impractical. But which format do you prefer as a fan?

Cast your ballot in the poll below and debate the issue as you see fit in the Comments. In the meantime, make sure to follow our brothers in Houston sports arms at The Dream Shake for all your Rockets coverage today and beyond.

That's right. I said beyond.
