2015 NFL Power Rankings: ESPN Puts Texans In The Middle Of The NFL

New, comments

You know what's almost as good as arbitrary post-draft grades? Why, arbitrary post-draft power rankings, of course!

Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

Just days after the draft, ESPN has released their first (and likely last) semi-meaningful power rankings before the 2015 NFL season starts ramping up later this summer. The Texans came in at 17th place – right about where one would expect a 9-7 club to finish. Here is what the worldwide leader in sports had to say about the ranking.

17: Houston Texans (Down 3 spots)

Who wants to play the Texans this year? Houston added two more defensive players with its first two picks to join J.J. Watt, Jadeveon Clowney, Vince Wilfork and Co. this season.

For comparison’s sake, the Colts placed 5th, while Jaguars and Titans placed 30th and 32nd, respectively. Indianapolis might be a bit too highly regarded for my taste, considering they still have a shaky offensive line and an unreliable ground game, but when you have the best young quarterback in the business and an embarrassment of riches at the wide receiver position, I suppose you get a pass for a lot of shortcomings.

I do know one thing though; this monstrous Texans defense versus the potent Colts offense will be must-see TV next season. Mark your calendars, folks – #17 is coming for #5, and it’s about to get bloody.
