2015 Houston Texans Training Camp: Xavier Su'a-Filo Wearing Walking Boot

Second-year offensive lineman Xavier Su'a-Filo may have suffered an undisclosed injury to his foot or ankle, and it is being reported that he was in a walking boot at today's practice.

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

I was paying close attention to certain players when I attended Texans training camp yesterday, and one of those was Xavier Su'a-Filo.  Like many of you, I'm anxious to see more from the player who was selected by the Houston Texans with the 33rd overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.  That is obviously just one spot away from being a first-round pick and thus a sizable investment for any NFL team.  With a mostly limited performance his rookie season, there is an expectation that "XSF" should be making a strong leap forward in his second year in the league.

Here is an image I captured yesterday when he jogged out onto the practice field at Methodist Training Center across from NRG Stadium.  He looked to be running just fine, and you can see his cleats are free of any tape.

Later during practice, I noticed his left ankle taped up quite a bit as XSF stood with other players and watched the action.  That looks to be more than just a "support" approach to a tape job, but perhaps was an indication that he suffered some type of injury earlier during drills.

Today's practice was closed to the public, and the media is limited in what they can report, but we are hearing that Su'a-Filo was seen wearing a walking boot at the facility.  Let's hope he didn't fracture anything, and that perhaps he just strained a ligament or muscle and will be back in action soon.  The Texans invested a LOT in drafting this player so high last year, and the offensive line can't afford to lose many more players to injury.  That's especially true when you consider that Arian Foster is likely out for the first half of the 2015 season.

If you click HERE, it will take you to a series of images from today's Texans practice that were captured by Houston Chronicle photographer Brett Coomer.  If you advance the images to #18, you will see that there is someone in the background (out of focus) wearing a large boot on their left foot.  I suspect that is Su'a-Filo.  I send you there instead of posting it here to adhere to the policy regarding the use of images and having permission, yadda-yadda-yadda.
