Pierre Thomas To Sign With Texans, Will Compete For Third Down Back Role

The Texans have "replaced" Arian Foster just two days after his horrific groin injury during the team's first padded practice. Saints writer Dave Cariello tells us what we are getting with Pierre Thomas' acquisition.

Mark Berman and Aaron Wilson have both confirmed (simultaneously, I might add) that Pierre Thomas will be signing with the Texans.

The former Saint was brought in for a workout last night in the wake of Arian Foster’s severe groin injury and passed his physical.  Here is what our sister site, Canal Street Chronicles, had to say about Thomas when I reached out to them about his potential signing.

Pierre is incredible with screen passes. That was the Saints' bread and butter play for years and nobody was better at it than Pierre. Everyone was sad to see him go, but he was getting older and injuries seemed to be taking their toll. I think he's still got a little bit left in the tank and can benefit some team out there. Great guy off the field, quiet and humble, with no trouble. On the field, he never goes down on the first tackle; it always takes a couple of guys to bring him down. [He has] great vision, good hands, and he’s one of my all-time favorite Saints. [Pierre] was an UDFA in 2007 and beat out 3rd round draft pick Antonio Pittman for a roster spot. He's been a fan favorite ever since. We wish all the best for him.

What do you think, BRB? Can Pierre Thomas at least partially fill the void left by Foster?

UPDATE: Never mind.  Looks like Pierre Thomas isn't signing with Houston after all.  Yet, anyway.
