One of the great things about Twitter (admittedly, there are some negative aspects to the medium as well, but I digress) is its ability to provide instant reaction to breaking news. Here are some of the more noteworthy or amusing tweets sent in reaction to the report that Ryan Mallett has replaced Brian Hoyer as the Houston Texans' starting quarterback.
Going to Mallett is the right move -- and the only move. He should've started the season for Houston.

Bill O'Brien better hope Ryan Mallett is the real deal. If he isn't, the second-year coach is in for a long year in Houston. #Texans

Three quarters in the regular season changed what the coaches decided after a full summer watching both guys? https://t.co/07KmOohAVh

Fans and media should be happy with @RapSheet report Mallett starting. I'm shocked they benched Hoyer less than a game n2 season.
— John McClain (@McClain_on_NFL) September 16, 2015
Bill Obrien wasn't kidding when he said he wouldn't wait 8 games to make a change
— trey wingo (@wingoz) September 16, 2015
Wow. @RapSheet reports Texans preparing Mallett to start. Hoyer lasted 3 quarters as Week 1 starter. Charlie Frye-like.
— Gregg Rosenthal (@greggrosenthal) September 16, 2015
What is the opposite of poise? That’s what Hoyer had against Chiefs. It overwhelmed a handful of very nice throws.
— Gregg Rosenthal (@greggrosenthal) September 16, 2015
Bill O'Brien, as seen on Hard Knocks, said Hoyer wouldn't be on a short leash... turns out he got roughly 3 quarters before QB change made
— Jason La Canfora (@JasonLaCanfora) September 16, 2015
I'm a little surprised they changed their minds after one half of play...but I always liked Mallett better. https://t.co/Rf35udGWjA
— Matt Miller (@nfldraftscout) September 16, 2015
On Hard Knocks O'Brien told Mallett and Hoyer he wouldn't go "eight games of not being very good." Instead Hoyer got 3 quarters. #Texans

I'm glad O'Brien made the switch, but what the hell was the QB guru coach watching over 7 months that can be erased in 7 minutes of football?
— nick wright (@getnickwright) September 16, 2015
Underrated quality in a coach: the smarts not to follow one dumb decision with another purely out of embarrassment. https://t.co/e6ZwV6BrTr
— Jerome Solomon (@JeromeSolomon) September 16, 2015
Ryan Mallett was made available to the media in the locker room. Very good mood & obviously everyone saw the reports.
— Jayson Braddock (@JaysonBraddock) September 16, 2015
I'm whoopdefndoo on #Texans QB choice & how OB has handled. No ideal choice. Both have +/-. If your "safe" guy ain't safe then here we are.
— Stephanie Stradley (@StephStradley) September 16, 2015
What is the point of tweets like "if you have 2 QBs, you have none?" That's the equivalent of saying you need to win turnovers to win
— Mike Meltser (@MikeMeltser) September 16, 2015
O'Brien hemorrhaging all of the enthusiasm & optimism I had for him after Hard Knocks. This is either panic, desperation or McNair. #Texans
— Blay (@Blairsker) September 16, 2015
Bill O'Brien, just when I think you couldn't possibly be any dumber, you go and do something like this…and TOTALLY REDEEM YOURSELF! #Texans
— Chris Jackson (@ChrisCJackson) September 16, 2015
can we cut to @BrettKollmann celebrating shouting "THATS MY GUY!!"
— StanfordKP (@stanfordkp) September 16, 2015
That last tweet reminds me that I should probably bring your attention to Brett's earlier video work on Ryan Mallett. Enjoy it and keep the Texans conversation going in the Comments.
