Once the Texans signed Kourtnei Brown and Brian Peters to their active roster, someone had to go for the team to get back to 53. I assumed it meant the Texans would cut someone. I was wrong. Very wrong.
ILB Mike Mohamed and OLB Carlos Thompson are being placed on IR to make room for OLB Kourtnei Brown and ILB Brian Peters.

This qualifies as significant and bad news. When Mohamed got hurt before the season opener, Texans fans knew the defense had taken a big hit, but there was optimism that Mo would be back and the Texans would improve at linebacker, particularly from a coverage perspective. Now, that optimism has been crushed.
Although we don't know the severity of Mohamed's injury, the team could not have placed him on IR with a designation to return even if they wanted to, having utilized that exception for Ryan Griffin after Week One. Given the team's weakness at linebacker inside, however, it stands to reason that Mohamed wasn't in a position to come back this season, or the team would have figured out another way to keep him eligible to return in 2015.
This is a bummer. React below.
