Texans 0 - Bengals 0: Second Quarter Live Thread

Texans and Bengals head into the second quarter at NRG Stadium.

NFL: Cincinnati Bengals at Houston Texans Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Houston hosts Cincinnati tonight in a Christmas Eve showdown at NRG Stadium. Shiny new quarterback Tom Savage will try to get the offense going and the dominant Houston defense will look to shut down the Bengals offense. With a win tonight, Houston can clinch the AFC South and a playoff berth (following Tennessee’s loss to Jacksonville earlier today).

Live blogging the first quarter:

  • Bengals with the first drive.
  • Kareem Jackson and Brian Cushing got their hands on Jeremy Hill there. Tackle for loss on third down.
  • Uh oh, Tyler Ervin back returning punts. That makes me kind of uncomfortable.
  • Oh it’s alright, fair catch.
  • Savage moves the chains after a toss to Will Fuller and a short run by Jay Prosch.
  • First sack of the night on Savage, a loss of yards on third down and the Texans will punt.
  • Big special teams stop there by Prosch! Stops the Bengals’ return short.
  • Wow, this Texans’ offensive line has to protect Savage better. I’m lookin’ at you, Jeff Allen!! Back-to-back sacks on the Texans’ quarterback.
  • A solid defensive series by Houston, and the Bengals will punt.
  • VINCE WILFORK SIGHTING!
  • Both teams continue trading three and outs as the quarter draws to an end. 3rd down Bengals at the start of the second.
