Much virtual ink has already been spilled, and shall surely continue to be spilled, about the quarterbacks who could find their way to Houston via the 2016 NFL Draft. Mike Mayock, savant of the NFL Network, has published his initial list of the five best players at each position available in the 2016 NFL Draft. You can read his entire list here. For the purpose of this post, we're going to focus on the QBs.
As of February 10, 2016, before the NFL Combine or any Pro Days, here's who Mayock believes are the best signal-calling prospects available in the 2016 NFL Draft:
Quarterback
1. Carson Wentz, North Dakota State
2. Jared Goff, California
3. Paxton Lynch, Memphis
4. Connor Cook, Michigan State
5. Dak Prescott, Mississippi State
Note the absence of a certain Penn State quarterback from that list, despite the opinion of some learned types that Christian Hackenberg is a top-flight NFL prospect and would be a sublime fit for Bill O'Brien and the Houston Texans. It's also interesting to note that Mayock is reasonably enthusiastic about Dak Prescott, a guy some have compared to Tyrod Taylor.
How do Mayock's rankings strike you? You don't have to limit your answer to his QB rankings; if there's another player or position group you want to discuss, have at it.
