For right now, the Texans employ Brandon Brooks and Xavier Su'a-Filo as their starting guards. However, Brooks is going to be a free agent, and he should expect a massive salary increase wherever he signs. If Brooks were to leave us in free agency, we would have Oday Aboushi, Chad Slade and Karim Barton, plus XSF, as our guards. I cannot possibly be the only person alarmed by that idea, so here's to hoping Rick and Chris manage the cap well enough to bring Brooks back.
If they can't, however, guard may be a position we take a look at in the draft or through undrafted free agents. Draft Breakdown and CBS have extensive lists of prospects at the position. Some of them, like Cody Whitehair (Kansas State), who unfortunately doesn't have white hair, are going to be second day draft picks and likely too high for us to realistically grab, but others, like Graham Glasgow (Michigan) or Jordan Walsh (Iowa) may be available later in the draft.
What do y'all think? Should we focus on re-signing Brooks? Should we try vet free agency? If so, who do we target? Are you comfortable with Aboushi, Slade and Barton opposite XSF? Or should we be looking at any specific guys this draft? This is where we discuss the OGs. Enjoy!
