Miss me?
Miss me?
Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

If I remember correctly, and I may or may not, this series originally started out as "Saturday Night Tunes."  Back when I had more time than I do these days, I would listen to a ton of new music and post my favorites here.  Unfortunately, I now have a tendency to watch Bloomberg TV during the day than listen to music, so it's not like the old days.

Lately, though, I've been listening to music while playing Madden.  Some of these groups aren't new, but they're new to me!  In light that this week kicked off SXSW here in the ATX, enjoy tonight's retro version of Saturday Night Tunes.

Black Joe Lewis (& The Honeybears) - Of course I picked an Austin band first!  You'll notice I listen to a lot of blues/soul and rap music, and Black Joe Lewis fills the former part of my most favorite music tastes.  I've been listening to Black Joe Lewis for several years now, and I've been enjoying him again lately.  The band is playing at the 8th Wonder Brewery in Houston tonight if you're so inclined.

The Heavy - I know, not exactly an unknown group, but if you add horns to a Motown sound, you're gonna grab my attention.  They're playing Tuesday in Austin for SXSW, which I swear isn't totally hipster these days (I lie).

Doomtree - Supposedly, you've listened to the extent of your music tastes by about 25 years old.  Considering how many of my high school friends still listen to crap from the 80s ALL THE FREAKING TIME, I mostly believe this theory.  However, I still love to listen to a very wide, and new, range of music.  With seven members, all of who have different backgrounds and styles, Doomtree almost single-handedly hits every genre.  Oddly, Doomtree is not in Austin over the next two weeks.  You mean, there's something outside of Austin?

What are you listening to, BRB?
