2016 NFL Free Agent Tracker: Houston Texans Sign Former Chiefs Guard Jeff Allen To Replace Brandon Brooks

New, comments

Rick Smith's spending spree isn't quite done yet, as he brings in a replacement for the recently departed Brandon Brooks.

The Eagles unfortunately outbid the Texans for Brandon Brooks' services today, but Rick Smith swiftly responded by snatching up Jeff Allen from the Chiefs.

Allen has been a solid contributor in Kansas City for the past few years, particularly as a run blocker in front of the Chiefs' stable of highly productive running backs. While not quite as dominant as Brooks at the point of attack, he is more than reliable enough to justify his $7,000,000.00 per year price tag in the modern offensive linemen market. Considering how much cash Rick Smith just had to spend to get himself a quarterback, finding value signings on the offensive line is as important as ever for Houston's long term financial stability.
