The Houston Texans, for reasons unbeknownst to me or anyone else on planet earth, have decided to give away the number of one of their greatest players in franchise history just two months after releasing him. Ladies and gentlemen, our newest #23 is not Arian Foster…it’s Tyler Ervin.
Jersey #'s for #Texans Day 3 picks:
— Drew Dougherty (@DoughertyDrew) May 2, 2016
23 Tyler Ervin
36 K.J. Dillon
98 D.J. Reader
If the Ervin family happens to read this anytime soon, please forgive me for what I am about to write, but what the f*** are you doing, Texans? This isn’t just any running back. This is Arian Foster. This is one of the pillars of this team’s short history. This is one of the few locks to be inducted into the Texans' Ring of Honor someday. You do not disrespect him by handing that number to a rookie – ever.
Mr. Ervin, you are a fine young football player and by all accounts an even better person, but even a talent of your caliber will have trouble filling #23’s shoes. I wish you the best of luck in your career, but I think I speak for all Texans fans when I say that anyone who wears that jersey will have to endure irrationally high expectations for their performance from the moment they step on the field. For all of our sakes, I hope you are ready to rise to that challenge.
