Saturday Night's Alright For Commenting: June 25, 2016

Pull up a chair and join us for tonight's Saturday Night Open Thread, a/k/a SNOT. A device of some sort might be good, too.

As I get older and become even more calloused, something I previously thought unpossible, I've started breaking the football season into five phases:

  1. Training Camp/Pre-Season
  2. Seventeen Weeks of Regular Season Football
  3. Playoffs
  4. The Lying Season, a/k/a The Draft
  5. Best Shape Ever/Breakout Season

We're currently ensconced in BEST SHAPE EVAR/BREAKOUTZ ZEASON! time of year.  From the local fishwrap, via the excellent Aaron Wilson (how about that for an upgrade over previous Comicle staff-members?) writes about massive flop C.J. Fiedorowicz:

"I think he's really effective blocking, and I think the thing is sometimes he's a little underrated as a pass-catcher just because maybe all the stats aren't there," Texans tight ends coach John Perry said of Fiedorowicz, a former third-round draft pick from Iowa. "One of the things I always point out he very rarely doesn't catch the ball. He's got a great catch radius. He's an effective guy that way.

He (and the rest of the TE corp) is so good at blocking that he lost snaps to Kendall Lamm last year.  As far as receiving, CJF had only 16 more receptions than did Lamm.

Look, I know it's that time of year of unmitigated, blind enthusiasm, but PUH-lease.  My favorite pick of the 2014 NFL Draft, CJF has been terrible both as a blocker and especially as a receiver.  Not just terrible, but league worst awful.  Sure, maybe he changes it up for this year, but I do wish Hunter Henry would've slid to us in the second round.

I'll safely assume all of you are similarly in the best shapes of your lives, getting ready for a breakout season in 2016.  WOOOOOO!  But what else is going on, BRB? Usual SNOTty open thread rules apply.  Please discontinue use if a rash occurs.
