Rejoice, my barbecue-loving brothers and sisters! One of the greatest culinary institutions of Houston, Texas, Killen's Barbecue, will now be served to all Texans fans lucky enough to catch a home game at NRG Stadium this season, per KHOU.
Two of Killen's large barbecue pits were in the process of being installed earlier this summer. During football games, the pits will be located at section 109 and 129, according to sources.
"A formal announcement about this year’s culinary lineup will be forthcoming," Aramark spokesman David Freireich said in an emailed statement. "What I can tell you at this stage is, as part of our commitment to incorporating local tastes and flavors into the NRG Stadium menu to enhance the gameday experience, we are continually looking to partner with local brands, chefs and restaurants."
Killen's Barbecue — which consistently earns high praises and accolades — opened at 3613 E. Broadway St. in Pearland in 2014. Killen recently said he's interested in building a barbecue joint inside the Loop— and maybe another steakhouse somewhere in Houston.
Expect lines to be exceedingly long at both Killen's locations throughout the entire day, but I'll be damned if it isn't 100% worth the wait. Better quarterback. Better team. Better food. 2016 is looking to be a magical season already.
