Devon "Still" Bringing Smiles To The Faces Of Brave Young Cancer Survivors

Houston Texans defensive end/defensive tackle Devon Still isn't exactly what you would call a "nice guy" on the field in pads, but off the field, he continues to be a champion for giving back to the community. Devon is the father of Leah Strong, who became a globally recognized icon for her perseverance in the midst of her treatment and recovery from pediatric cancer.

Devon and the Still Strong Foundation hosted a "spa day" event Friday and spent some time with the brave cancer survivors at Texas Children's Hospital that afternoon. Devon's teammate, defensive tackle Christian Covington, was also in attendance and brought smiles to the faces of the children as they interacted with them. The big guys also got manicures, rounding out those rough cuticles that will soon be used to swat away the hands of offensive linemen trying to engage blocks on them.

I asked Devon how it feels to come into this season knowing that his daughter Leah is in full remission. He stated:

"I have a totally different mindset than I ever did when playing football, and I don't want to sit here and talk about it, I want for you all to see my approach and what kind of impact that I'm going to make for this Texans organization this season".

As we prepare to enjoy another season of Texans football, we'll keep a close eye on Devon as he battles for a starting job on this roster.  Please keep the Still Strong Foundation on your minds as well. Devon's organization has helped countless families with children who are battling pediatric cancer.

The Still Strong Foundation was created in 2015 to give grants to families affected by childhood cancers. The foundation provides these families with assistance with non-medical bills, such as mortgages, utilities, and travel expenses to help these brave children to fight cancer. Devon and Leah's vision is to allow pediatric cancer survivors and their families to spend more time together, which definitely helps to support kids in  a victorious fight against cancer.
