Houston Texans fans needed some good news in the face of this morning's confirmation that Nick Martin will miss the entire 2016 season. To the surprise of no one, J.J. Watt delivered.
#Texans star DL JJ Watt expects to practice next week, source said. Potentially major development toward him playing Week 1. He's doing well
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) August 25, 2016
While Watt's status is subject to change and a return to practice doesn't necessarily mean he'll be ready for the regular season opener against the Bears, news that he could be back on the practice field before the season starts has to be considered positive, particularly after Bill O'Brien recently expressed some uncertainty about when J.J. would return (despite being optimistic about his progress) after Watt went under the knife a little more than a month ago.
Right now, with so many questions surrounding the health of various players who are being counted on to make big contributions this season, we'll gladly take this heaping dose of optimism.
UPDATE: Ed Werder is refuting Rapoport's report.
#Texans source says @JJwatt not expected to practice next week and status for season-opener remains uncertain. Hopeful on Duane Brown
