The Houston Texans are (almost) done with cuts and down to their final 53 players.

This is it, y’all. This is what a championship Houston Texans roster looks like. Alright, so I’m getting slightly ahead of myself. But the Texans have made the majority of their cuts toward the final 53-man roster, and we are only nine days away from real, honest-to-goodness, regular season Houston football! This is how the final roster is shaping up:

OFFENSE:

Quarterback: Brock Osweiler, Tom Savage, Brandon Weeden

Running Back: Lamar Miller, Tyler Ervin, Alfred Blue, Jonathan Grimes, Jay Prosch, Akeem Hunt

Wide Receiver: DeAndre Hopkins, Jaelen Strong, Will Fuller, Braxton Miller, Keith Mumphery, Cecil Shorts III

Tight End: Stephen Anderson, Ryan Griffin, C.J. Fiedorowicz

Offensive Line: Duane Brown, Derek Newton, Chris Clark, Kendall Lamm, Greg Mancz, Jeff Allen, Xavier Su’a-Filo, Tony Bergstrom, Oday Aboushi

DEFENSE:

Defensive Line: J.J. Watt, Vince Wilfork, Christian Covington, D.J. Reader, Devon Still, Joel Heath,

Brandon Dunn

Inside Linebacker: Brian Cushing, Benardrick McKinney, Max Bullough, Akeem Dent, Brian Peters

Outside Linebacker: Jadeveon Clowney, Whitney Mercilus, John Simon, Brennan Scarlett

Cornerbacks: Johnathan Joseph, Kareem Jackson, Kevin Johnson, A.J. Bouye, Charles James

Safety: Quintin Demps, Andre Hal, Eddie Pleasant, K.J. Dillon, Corey Moore

SPECIAL TEAMS:

Kicker: Nick Novak

Punter: Shane Lechler

Long Snapper: Jon Weeks

There are now 53 players on the Texans roster as of this posting (Brandon Dunn, Akeem Hunt and Cecil Shorts III were cut Saturday morning). As we attempt to predict the final few moves, here are a few of the players most likely to end their careers with the Texans.

Running back will probably see another departure (after Kenny Hilliard was released Friday). L. Miller has the obvious start, but Ervin, Grimes, and Hunt are all still on the roster. Ervin seems safe, but the other three all have reasons to be on the chopping block.

Wide receiver is an overloaded position as well. Behind Hopkins, Strong, Fuller, and B. Miller are Mumphery and Shorts III, one of whom will likely be cut by tomorrow. Quenton Bundradge and Wendall Williams are gone as of this afternoon.

Other players with potential to be cut include Scarlett and Dent. Still and Heath may be fighting for a single job. Bergstrom could go if Houston wants to take a chance on one of the centers who was released this week. The remainder of the final decisions will come down in the next 24 hours, and you can find a continually-updated list of Texans cuts here.

Oh, and in case any of you were worried, my favorite TE (the guy who is always open), Stephen Anderson made the roster. This is what he had to say on his Instagram about making the final 53:

To most people this is just a number but to me this is so much more. I just want to start off and say God is good! Idk where to start and its hard to describe what I'm feeling right now but Ima try. I love this game with all my heart. I put in my body, mind and spirit everyday I lace up the cleats. My path to continuing to play this game has been the road less traveled. From receiving NO offers coming out of high school which was a difficult time, to walking on at Cal when everyone told me I wasn't good enough, to persevering through that then eventually starting and making it to the NFL combine. Despite the combine going undrafted which at the time was frustrating because I wanted validation for the work I put in to that point. But I kept my vision of the man and football player I know I could be and I have embraced all of those challenges. Just as my tattoo says James 1:2-4 "Consider it pure joy my brothers and sisters when you face trials of many kinds, because you know the testing of your faith produces perseverance, let perseverance complete its work so that you can be mature and complete not lacking in anything." I have persevered through many obstacles and with hard work and the grace of God I am on a 53 man roster. My message to those who are going through their own obstacles is to not let anything or anyone disrupt your vision that you have for yourself because that and a strong work ethic will be the engine to drive you as far as you want to go. Now with all that being said....Houston I'll see y'all next Sunday 89
