Bill O'Brien Takes Over Offensive Play-Calling Duties

The Texans’ offense hasn't quite had the start that we all thought it might. Whether that's because of Brock Osweiler not performing, Lamar Miller not producing, or the lack of Duane Brown on the offensive line, something just isn't quite clicking. In an attempt to get the offense going and boost the team’s production, Bill O'Brien has decided to take over the play-calling himself.

Recall that O’Brien was responsible for play-calling his first year in Houston, until George Godsey was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2015 and took over those responsibilities. While Godsey managed to make it work with the limited talent at his disposal last year, this year’s offense has struggled, the running game especially. As I said in my Four Things To Watch yesterday, we've been running it up the middle way too much for my liking instead of letting Miller run off tackle and use that breakaway speed.

Will this make a difference? I'm not sure. If it can get our run game going, however, it might be just what we need to really start to see the best out of this offense.
