Houston Texans Injury News: Derek Newton Placed On PUP List

As expected, the Texans’ starting right tackle won’t be taking the field anytime soon.

Derek Newton tore both patellar tendons in Week 7’s loss to the Denver Broncos. The injury forced him to sit out the remainder of the 2016 season, and now it’s costing him at least the beginning of the upcoming 2017 season.

This does not really come as a surprise to many Texans fans, as it’s been all but a foregone conclusion that Newton will miss the 2017 campaign.

The right tackle is in the third year of a five-year deal he signed in 2015. Chris Clark will likely be the starting right tackle this season, with rookie Julien Davenport and third-year lineman Kendall Lamm competing to unseat him.
