The Texans and Titans meet today for a match-up that has no bearing on the playoff standings. This division rivalry could still prove historic for Houston, who could sweep the AFC South for the first time in franchise history. With major starters sitting out, including Jadeveon Clowney, Lamar Miller, Johnathan Joseph and Brian Cushing, Houston has clearly decided to rest the team in preparation for the playoffs instead of pushing for their tenth win. This is your second quarter live thread, and here’s a brief look at what happened in the first 15 minutes of play.
Live blogging the first quarter:
- Texans doing a decent job of controlling the run here. Titans turn it over.
- Tom Savage gets sacked deep in Houston territory and loses the football. It’s returned by Tennessee to the end zone. Titans up 7-0 early on the Texans
- Texans’ defense getting it DONE. Big plays from A.J. Bouye and Joel Heath lead to a fourth and long, Titans punt.
- Texans’ offense NOT getting it done. Another three and out.
- Delanie Walker with the drop on third down. Titans to punt.
- Another running back play up the middle. I wonder if this is ever going to work?
- A grab by Nuk gives Houston with their first first down of the game, with 1:30 left on the game clock.
- Third and one with a run that looks like it will be marked just shy of a first down. End of the first quarter, Titans 7, Texans 0.
