Super Bowl LI: Give Your Houston Recommendations

Texans fans chime in with what they think visitors to the host city should do.

Fellow Houstonians, I have been asked by more than one person to recommend sights, sounds, local items of interest, restaurants, bars, and the like for those who will be visiting our fair city for Super Bowl LI (51, if you’re not into Roman numerals) next week. I realized that while I certainly have my share of thoughts in response to that question, many of you surely have excellent suggestions of your own. While I fancy myself to be relatively well informed about the finer points of our beloved metropolis, there’s no doubt my knowledge pales in comparison to many in our community.

To that end, what would you recommend visitors do or visit while in Houston? I’ll get it started with a list of restaurants I love for various cuisines.

Tex-Mex: Ninfa’s (the original location at 2704 Navigation).

Steak: Lynn’s Steakhouse (955 Dairy Ashford), Killen’s Steakhouse (6425 W. Broadway in Pearland), or Pappas Bros. (5839 Westheimer).

BBQ: Killen’s (3613 E. Broadway in Pearland) or Pizzitola’s (1703 Shepherd).

Italian: Antica Osteria (2311 Bissonnet).

Sushi: Uchi (904 Westheimer) or Kuu (947 Gessner).

I’m sure there are people out there who think I’m nuts for preferring one or more of those joints over somewhere else. They may be right. One of the best things about Houston is the number of options out there in virtually every aspect of entertainment.

I invite you to chime in with your personal favorites, and please don’t limit it to only restaurants. What do you think someone in Houston should see or experience to truly get the best of our town? Let’s see if we can broaden the horizons of both those of live here and those who will be stopping by for the big game. Fire away in the Comments.
