Countdown To Sunday Night Football: Texans - Chiefs

We’re under the lights tonight against the Chiefs. Traditionally the Texans have withered under the glare of national attention. We’ll be hoping we turn over a new leaf.

More of this tonight, please, with D.J. Reader playing the role of Vince Wilfork.

The Texans will be on national television tonight as the only NFL game on. There have been times when that statement has raised dread in the hearts of Houston fans across the land. Bad memories of a team and coaching staff hopelessly outplayed, outreached, and outclassed, exposed for all to see, are the hallmarks of Texans fans when it comes to primetime football.

But we’re going to have to believe that this season will be different. We’ve got a young franchise (please, pretty please) quarterback in the form of Deshaun Watson, a top-flight wide receiver in DeAndre Hopkins, and a defense that can and does scare opponents (we shall not mention special teams or our offensive line). We’re facing a 4-0 Chiefs team in what really isn’t a rivalry (though our fanbases do loathe one another). We’ll need to hand them their first loss of the season to continue to improve under Watson’s guidance.

What are you expecting to see tonight? Any concerns about the matchups? Would the return of Duane Brown really impact this game more than any others? This is your Countdown to Kickoff. Chill here until the first quarter thread opens up at 7:15 p.m. (Please, in interest of the Masthead’s sanity, should any Chiefs fans invade and get hostile, flag it or email us, rather than responding in kind).
