Today might be a sign of the NFL’s nadir. Two teams are starting Tom Savage and Blaine Gabbert at quarterback, and those teams are facing one another this afternoon. Yes, Texans fans, we are one of the teams whose quarterbacks must surely make the NFL honchos wince.
Neither team was supposed to be facing this nightmare. Well, we were, since Bill O’Brien initially decided that Tom Savage was THE guy, before he proceeded to sh!t the bed in the first half of the first game of the season. But OB discovered the wonder that is Deshaun Watson, and all was right in the Texans’ offense (we will not discuss the offensive line, because this is a moment of happy reminiscing). Then DW4 got injured, and Savage returned to savage our hopes and dreams of the playoffs. Carson Palmer had been leading the Cardinals, not exceptionally (they’re 4-5), but leading them. With Palmer under center, this game would be a victory for the Cards, but Blaine Gabbert is not Carson Palmer, and so they must worry.
This should be the worst quarterbacking duo we see this week. As Texans fans, we need to prepare for it by stocking up on bleach, whiskey, and Tylenol.
