Houston Texans Claim Andre Ellington Off Waivers, Cut Josh Johnson

The Texans add another former Clemson star and bid farewell to their third string quarterback.

The slew of injuries that has claimed so many Texans this year recently hit the running back position when D’Onta Foreman was lost for the rest of the season. The team has sprung into action to find a suitable replacement. Enter Ian Rapoport:

Ellington struggled to get playing time for the Cardinals behind David Johnson and then Adrian Peterson. Ellington originally rose to prominence during his rookie and sophomore NFL seasons, where he appeared prominently as a third down back in Arizona’s offensive system. Ellington will most likely slot in behind Lamar Miller and perhaps Alfred Blue (at least to start) in Houston.

Presumably to fit Ellington (or the recently promoted Cobi Hamilton) on the 53-man roster, the Texans also reportedly cut Josh Johnson. Johnson was signed by the team two weeks ago and never saw any playing time in Houston.

Thoughts on Andre Ellington, cousin to Bruce, to the Texans to back up Lamar Miller? Are the Texans now officially the pro team for Clemson alumni? Were they already? Sound off on this and anything else Andre Ellington related in the comments below.
