T.J. Yates Already Taking First Team Practice Reps

That was quick.

NFL: Indianapolis Colts at Houston Texans Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Six days after the Texans signed journeyman quarterback T.J. Yates (who has been in Houston twice before during his seven-year career), Yates is already taking practice reps with the first team offense, per Aaron Wilson.

The last time Yates was with the Texans in 2015, he started two games (winning both), and in Week 10 he came off the bench for an injured Brian Hoyer to defeat the then-undefeated Cincinnati Bengals in primetime on Monday Night Football. Not only that, but Yates is the quarterback who delivered the Texans their first playoff win in franchise history in 2011 (ironically, also over the Bengals).

If there is one thing that T.J. Yates has excelled at during his multiple stints in Houston, it’s winning games that he absolutely should not have been able to win. Hopefully that magic returns to him this weekend to defeat the red hot Los Angeles Rams...of course that is assuming Yates is called upon to relieve Tom Savage at some point during the game (Spoiler Alert: he will be).
