The weather has been spectacular. Every day at work, while the rest of my colleagues leave their desk to sit in the break room and eat together or be waited upon, I scarf my food down like a fantastic fox and then head outside. I set down a blue moving blanket under my favorite tree and lay down. There, I’ll look up at the yellowed leaves and the birds’ nests and think, “The leaves on the trees are infinitely more interesting than any sort of human affairs.” I’ll close my eyes. Focus on the brow point. Let the colors flow and sink away for 25 minutes. I’ll awake like a resurrection, pack my things back in my car, and finish my day.
This Sunday is going to be beautiful like every day this week has been. I should be going to Purgatory Creek Park, walking around the Hill Country, and reading The Orchard Keeper. Instead, I’ll watch this team play football because I’m a real fan. I stick with my boys. Go Texans!
I’ll probably end up watching this game on the couch and take a nap at halftime.
What about you? What are you doing? Are you going to put your boots on, rodeo up to Nashville, and take in that sound bellowed by Tim McGraw wannabes playing country cover songs in every bar they have? Will you be cooking up something loud in that crock pot? Are you going to be a fake news fan, not watch the game at all, and hunker down in the garage with a tin foil hat on? Will you be savoring a perfect December by getting day-drunk on your favorite stool?
Whatever your plans, let us know in the Comments. If you're still trying to figure out what you're going to do, or if you’ll be a stranger in a strange land looking for somewhere to catch the game, pose any queries here; someone might have a suggestion for you. Similarly, if you've got a worthy spot staked out somewhere and want to clue fellow Texans fans in to it, please divulge that information in the Comments as well.
