Throw a rock in the NFL and you'll likely hit a current or former Texans quarterback. The list of course starts with Tom Savage. But other teams across the league have become fond of Texans quarterback for their backup spots, and many have been pressed into starting roles. Brian Hoyer, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Case Keenum, just to name a few.
But the Texans don't face a former quarterback of theirs today. Hoyer has been benched, got hurt, or got cut. Who knows? Who exactly is watching the 49ers these days? Instead, Houston faces a quarterback that Bill O'Brien wanted: Jimmy Garoppolo.
The Texans were reported to want the dashing young quarterback from Eastern Illinois University back in the 2014 NFL Draft. But the Patriots grabbed Garoppolo in the second round before the Texans could nab him in the third. Like every other New England backup, Garoppolo’s future wasn't in New England. He takes the field at NRG Stadium today with his future (likely) by the bay.
