On August 24th, the Cleveland Indians beat the Boston Red Sox 12-6 and then won 22 games in a row after that before losing 4-3 to the Kansas City Royals on September 15th. Cal Ripken played 2,632 consecutive games. Brett Favre started 297 straight regular season games. In 1971, the Los Angeles Lakers won 33 straight games.
This past Sunday in Nashville, another monumental steak in sports history came to a close. On New Year’s Day 201,7 Tom Savage was strip-sacked against the Tennessee Titans. After seeing his next six starts with the Texans include a sack ending in a fumble, Savage finally came away unscathed. It ended it where it started: In Nashville, on December 3rd, almost a year later, Tom Savage was sacked four times but held onto the football each and every time.
All things must end. Nothing can continue and carry on for forever. But we still have memories of this perfect and absurd streak. I’ll never forget this historic run, and neither should you. So we’ll savor it in the form of a simple question:
Which Tom Savage strip-sack was your favorite over his six-game journey?
Tennessee Titans (#1)
Jacksonville Jaguars (#2)
Indianapolis Colts (#3)
Los Angeles Rams (#4)
Los Angeles Rams (#5)
Arizona Cardinals (#6)
