Last week, Texans fans saw a bit of a unicorn in the form of a mock draft predicting the Texans would take a cornerback instead of an offensive lineman or quarterback. Don’t look now, but it’s happening again, though this mock is by SB Nation’s Dan Kadar. Here’s what Kadar has the Texans doing with the 25th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft this week:
25. Houston Texans: Marlon Humphrey, CB, Alabama
With A.J. Bouye poised to cash in big time in free agency, the Texans may need to go after another cornerback high in the draft or risk having a big drop off in coverage. That becomes a much easier proposition if teams are moving up for offensive linemen and a player like Humphrey happens to be available.
I imagine we’ll see more analysts match the Texans with cornerbacks in the first round if A.J. Bouye does in fact depart via free agency in a few weeks, a scenario that is rendered more probable by the team’s likely decision to refrain from using franchise tag on him.
That said, what are your thoughts on Marlon Humphrey as a possible first round target?
