Like Dan Kadar, SI.com’s Chris Burke now has a three-round projection of the 2017 NFL Draft up for your perusal. You can (and should) check out all 96 picks here. If you want to focus on what Burke believes your Houston Texans will do, feast your eyes upon these three selections.
25. Houston Texans: PATRICK MAHOMES (QB, TEXAS TECH). The Texans have all but said they’ll be drafting a quarterback—and likely early, because whomever it is will be expected to push Brock Osweiler and Tom Savage. Mahomes’s blend of athleticism and a rocket arm might finally solve Bill O’Brien’s QB woes.
57. Houston Texans: MARCUS WILLIAMS (S, UTAH). Williams has everything an NFL team could want from a free safety, most notably the ability to find the ball and go after it.
89. Houston Texans: DAWAUNE SMOOT (DL/LB, ILLINOIS)
I know we’ve talked before about the possibility of the Texans using their first round pick on Mahomes, and I imagine the passion for the decision on both sides hasn’t changed much. What say you about Williams and Smoot in the second and third rounds, BRB?
