With only two QBs currently on the roster and the team’s rumored desire to add Tony Romo to the fold still more speculative than real, it makes sense for mock drafters to double-down on sending a quarterback to Houston in their simulations of the 2017 NFL Draft. That strategy has most frequently taken the form of assigning Patrick Mahomes to Houston, often because he’s the last chair left when the music stops in the first round. But what if a player some consider the best signal-caller available somehow falls to Houston at No. 25? Todd McShay’s latest mock draft assumes that scenario comes to pass.
25. Houston Texans (9-7): Mitchell Trubisky (QB—North Carolina)
The Texans are still in the mix for Tony Romo, but if they're unable to land him, they'll be in the market for a quarterback after trading Brock Osweiler last week. Trubisky would be good value here. I love his pocket presence and accuracy, but have concerns about some of the critical errors he made, including two bad interceptions versus Stanford.
First off, do you believe this is realistic? If Trubisky was there at No. 25, would it be a no-brainer for the Texans to draft him? Does your answer to that question change if Tony Romo is wearing steel blue, battle red, and liberty white by late April?
