The Film Room (2017 NFL Draft): Gareon Conley Scouting Report

The Texans will likely be looking to draft yet another cornerback early in the 2017 NFL Draft. Could this former Buckeye be the answer?

NFL: Combine Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Gareon Conley somehow managed to both be a highly respected first round talent and the forgotten man in Ohio State's loaded secondary last season. Most of the focus from the media always seemed to be on either Malik Hooker or Marshon Lattimore’s emergence, but it was Conley who provided the Buckeyes with a steady veteran presence and loads of big plays in even bigger games.

He's long, he's fast, he's got ball skills, and he's versatile enough to line up everywhere on the field. Conley is the perfect cornerback prospect for a modern NFL that is relying more and more on “single high” defenses as their base. Considering that the Texans seem open to moving Kareem Jackson to safety and filling his spot in the lineup with a younger corner (not named A.J. Bouye, of course), Conley is a name to watch for Houston throughout the draft process.
