Tip o’ the cap to Wotan for fiendishly monitoring Twitter and bringing this to my attention:
Texans agree to deals with Nick Novak, Shane Lechler, according to sources— Aaron Wilson (@AaronWilson_NFL) March 8, 2017
#Texans get important business done before start of free agency retaining punter Shane Lechler & kicker Nick Novak. https://t.co/EUFFF1V52b— Mark Berman (@MarkBermanFox26) March 8, 2017
I don’t think these re-signings come as a surprise to Texans fans; frankly, it would have been infinitely more surprisingly if Shane Lechler and Nick Novak didn’t return to the team for 2017. Nevertheless, it would appear the Texans have two less positions to worry about. Now we wait to see precisely how much of the Texans’ precious cap room Novak and Lechler bogarted. I imagine the answer is “not much,” but every dime counts.
UPDATE: Some contract and salary cap numbers for you...
