2017 NFL Mock Draft: A New Name For The Houston Texans

You (almost) surely haven’t seen this player connected to the Texans in a mock draft before.

Texas Draft X
The island.

As we’ve lamented any number of times throughout the offseason, it’s rare to see a mock draft that doesn’t have your Houston Texans spending their first round pick on a quarterback or offensive lineman. It’s even rarer to find a player mocked to the Texans few are talking about. Danny Kelly’s latest mock draft, however, hits both of those notes and includes some sound logic to boot.

25. Houston Texans: S Obi Melifonwu, UConn

After losing cornerback A.J. Bouye and safety Quintin Demps in free agency, the Texans grab Melifonwu at no. 25 and add depth to both positions. The über-athletic UConn product has experience at both cornerback and safety and possesses the size and athleticism to play at either spot in the pros. Melifonwu gives defensive coordinator Mike Vrabel another versatile defensive back capable of matching speed and quickness with receivers, athletic tight ends, and pass-catching backs.

I know at least one of BRB staffer will love this pick, as his was the sole voice championing Melifonwu when it was time for us to make our first round selection in the 2017 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft. What say you?
