In addition to getting a shiny new quarterback in Round One, the Texans have brought in a new LB, Zach Cunningham, and a new RB, D’Onta Foreman. But we’re nowhere near done.
The fourth through seventh rounds are where a lot of teams get those players that need a little (or a lot) of coaching up, but quite a few lower-round draft picks have ended up being rather important to the success of Bill O’Brien (and Rick Smith’s) Houston Texans. Whether you think that’s a sign of drafting genius in not over-drafting a guy who can be had later on, or drafting ineptitude in needing to rely on sixth round guys so much due to “issues” with higher-round players might hint at where you stand in the Fire Rick Smith crowd.)
We know that there’s still a lot of talented players left in the 2017 NFL Draft, and that we’ve got a proven track record of finding UDFAs that end up making the team and records (Arian, we miss you). Today’s the day when the real work of finding good players takes place.
We’re going to count down to the start of the fourth round here. The first thread for the draft will post at 10:45 a.m. Until then, talk about the Texans, draft, and whatever else that’s football-related on your mind below.
