Tony Romo has decided he’s done playing in the NFL, so any of us who hoped he’d be a solution for the denizens of NRG Stadium in 2017 will have to come to grips with it not happening. So what will the Texans do? Trade for a veteran quarterback? Sign a free agent? Select one (or two?) in the 2017 NFL Draft? Anything is possible.
Dan Kadar, though...that cat’s all about the draft, so it follows he’d look at the Texans’ situation through that prism. Here’s what Kadar has your Houston Texans doing in his latest mock draft now that the possibility of Tony Romo coming to town has been extinguished.
25. Houston Texans: DeShone Kizer, QB, Notre Dame
Mahomes or Kizer? Kizer or Mahomes? With Tony Romo retiring, it’s likely that the Texans will face that decision on draft night. The pick could end up being Kizer, the more traditional pocket passer that might fit Bill O’Brien’s offense easier.
How’s that grab you? Are you more comfortable with the team burning a first round pick on a quarterback knowing Romo won’t be on the roster? Or do you still believe it’s a poor use of resources, given the QBs available and/or the value that could be found at another position at No. 25?
