The signing of Davenport will hopefully help address quite a few of the concerns the Texans have in regards to the future of the tackle position, with Duane Brown in his 30s and Derek Newton suffering two torn patellar tendons. Davenport has the physical profile of a NFL OT but still has to progress in terms of his technique.
Carlos Watkins meanwhile is a stout run defending DT from Clemson who managed double digit sack numbers last season. We’ve spoken already about Watkins and what his addition might mean for the defense’s larger structure. Watkins’ addition also adds further depth on a defensive line that includes Watson’s former Clemson teammate, D.J. Reader.
Theee rookies signed, four more to go. What do you think now that Davenport and Watkins are officially on the roster? Let us know in the comments below.
