With Jadeveon Clowney coming off his first (mostly) healthy professional season, Texans fans have wondered what the plan will be for #90 in 2017. With the return of J.J. Watt, will Clowney find himself standing up more than playing with his hand in the dirt? Clowney says there’s no telling, and he’s rather excited about it.
“Right now I’m just playing everything,” Clowney said. “They got me moving all over the field. I love what I’m doing right now. I love the schemes we got. They’re putting all the defenses together really good for us. They’re moving us around. Nobody is standing still, so that’s a good thing. Knowing the defense will make it a lot better so we really move on our own and move to certain spots that we know. It’s just basically game planning, really. That’s why I do that.”
Really, whether Clowney plays more linebacker than defensive end, or more defensive end than linebacker, or some hybrid of the two is likely of little import. Teams will have to account for him on every snap no matter where he lines up, just like they will with Watt and Whitney Mercilus. Regardless of how Mike Vrabel lines ‘em up, the Texans’ pass rush is going to be a treat to watch.
