As our community continues to battle the effects of unprecedented flooding, sports deservedly fade into the background. Nevertheless, it’s always somehow strangely uplifting to see coaches and athletes express real emotion and appreciation about the towns they suit up for, and Bill O’Brien’s opening statement at his presser today was a great example of that.

O’Brien mentioned the fundraiser J.J. Watt is spearheading, which just got a donation of $50,000.00 from new Rocket Chris Paul, as well as Bob McNair’s contribution of $1,000,000.00 to United Way (a donation that was quickly matched by the NFL Foundation). Robert Kraft has also volunteered to match donations of up to $1,000,000.00 to the Red Cross.
Rebuilding Houston is going to take a ton of money and a whole lot of time. To see so many people with means devoted to assisting in that endeavor underscores how special a place our city is.
