NCAA Football: Texas Spring Game
A new era begins in Austin.

It’s been a rough week in Texas.

Thankfully, college football is here to make things a bit more tolerable, if only to distract us temporarily with something that’s such a big part of our heritage.

Rebuilding has only just begun. If today’s college football games can provide you an ounce of solace, all the better. Not to trivialize what our great state is dealing with, but let’s simply celebrate that which gives us some semblance of joy and regularity.

To that end, this is your open thread for the first weekend of the college football season. Some games of note:

Kent State v. Clemson (11 a.m. CDT)

Akron v. Penn State (11 a.m. CDT)

Maryland v. Texas (11 a.m. CDT)

Michigan v. Florida (2:30 p.m. CDT)

UTEP v. Oklahoma (2:30 p.m. CDT)

Eastern Washington v. Texas Tech (3 p.m. CDT)

Liberty v. Baylor (6 p.m. CDT)

Florida State v. Alabama (7 p.m. CDT)

Jackson State v. TCU (7 p.m. CDT)

BYU v. LSU (8:30 p.m. CDT)

Montana State v. Washington State (9:30 p.m. CDT)

Note that the University of Houston has postponed their season opener in light of Harvey, and Texas A&M doesn’t play until tomorrow.

This is your open thread for the real opening of the 2017 college football season. The floor is yours. Hook ‘em.
