When Hurricane Harvey hit Houston a month ago, J.J. Watt, unable to return to Houston after the team’s third preseason game in New Orleans, started a fundraiser with this tweet.
Recovery efforts from Hurricane Harvey will be massive.

As the days passed and Watt’s efforts got more coverage from various media outlets, he kept raising the bar of the goal for the fundraiser. Finally, on September 15th, Watt ended the campaign. What Watt was able to accomplish, in large part due to the kindness of strangers, presumably the vast majority of whom aren’t Texans fans, was astounding.
The final tally: $37,098,248.00 from more than 209,000 donations.
Unbelievable.
