According to Ian Rapoport, the Texans have committed to Benardrick McKinney as a player to build around, signing him a five-year extension worth $50 million ($21 million guaranteed).

McKinney was entering the final season of his rookie contract and is now signed to play for the Texans until the end of the 2023 season. The $21 million in guaranteed money keeps one of Houston’s defenders in Battle Red for a long time.

McKinney has started every game in the last two seasons and has recorded 8.0 sacks over that two-year period. He’s the leading tackler for the team over the last two seasons.

Brian Gaine has now checked off a major to-do on his list of things to accomplish the offseason.

Congrats on your well-deserved payday, B-Mac!

UPDATE: Now we know the specifics of McKinney’s extension with the Texans.
