Although the Texans already picked up the fifth-year option on his rookie contract to ensure he’d remain in Houston in 2018, Jadeveon Clowney is ready for a new deal. Mark Berman caught up to Clowney’s agent Bus Cook esterday, and as you’d expect, Cook is ready to talk turkey with Brian Gaine.
Agent Bus Cook says Pro Bowl OLB Jadeveon Clowney (@clownejd)would like a long-term extension from the #Texans:"He & I have been talking about it.He would like to get it done. It's real impt to him-So he can focus just on football. With Brian Gaine being there now,it's achievable" pic.twitter.com/7Qc3kdupyF

Jadeveon Clowney heading into the final year of his contract would like an extension.Agent Bus Cook:"He's as good as anybody out there, better than most..They would be well-advised to keep him around, sign him to a long-term deal" Owner Bob McNair has said he'd like to do just that pic.twitter.com/1i7IwxoaMs

It’s interesting to note that Cook mentioned Gaine’s presence as general manager made a new contract for Clowney in Houston achievable. Was that an innocent remark, or does it indicate that Cook wasn’t as optimistic a new deal with the Texans would get done if Rick Smith was still in charge?
