According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, your Houston Texans are set to begin interviewing candidates for their vacant General Manager position next week.
McClain spoke to Texans owner Bob McNair, who confirmed the Texans have four to six names on their short list, though McNair declined to provide names. Names reported by McClain as known candidates are Texans Assistant General Manager Jimmy Raye III, Patriots Vice President of Player Personnel Nick Caserio, Packers Director of Player Personnel Brian Gutekunst, and Bills Vice President of Player Personnel Brian Gaine.
McNair says the Texans want to have their new GM in place within two weeks. According to McClain, the Texans are then expected to turn their attention to a contract extension for Bill O’Brien.
The proverbial “leader in the clubhouse” certainly seems to be Gaine, who Rick Smith fired - or who left for Buffalo in a lateral move, depending on what you read or what you believe.
UPDATE: Ian Rapoport says Brian Gaine appears to be the hire.
