Eagles, Patriots Block Texans From Interviewing Top Executives For GM Vacancy

One dance never hurt anyone.

New England Patriots v Detroit Lions

The Texans are in the middle of their general manager search. So far they have been linked to names, but haven’t formally interviewed anyone. But now it looks like they are fixing to ask people about that onr time they overcame adversity, and if they are Team Jacob or Team Edward.

During this process, they have reached out to other teams to help the job market and get someone a promotion. They reached out to the New England Patriots to interview Director of Player Personnel Nick Caserio and Director of College Scouting Monti Ossenfort. They also contacted to the Philadelphia Eagles to interview Vice President of Player Personnel Joe Douglas.

Both teams had the same answer: NO. Go away. Both teams blocked the Texans from interviewing these candidates for this position. That doesn’t mean things are over, though. There’s still a chance. Houston could hold a boombox outside the window once the Patriots’ and Eagles’ seasons come to a close, at which time those teams could no longer deny the Texans an opportunity to interview their desired candidates for a promotion.

Aside from those three, there are two other names linked to the Texans: Brian Gutekunst, Packers’ Director of Player Personell, and former Texans front office type and current Bills’ VP of Player Personnel Brian Gaine. Time will tell if the Texans hold off on making a hire so they can make another run at talking to Caserio, Ossenfort, or Douglas.

UPDATE: Ian Rapoport says Brian Gaine appears to be the hire. I guess the Texans were in no mood to wait for the Eagles or Patriots to lose.
