Houston went into the half today up 10-0 over the Bills. They were handed great field position by two Buffalo punting screw-ups—-a blocked punt and a muffed punt. Things were boring and pleasant. It looked to be an easy stroll towards victory.
Then the second half happened, the gates of hell opened, and the Bills’ pass rush was unleashed. Kyle Williams made it look like it was 2014 again. Jerry Hughes was diabolical. Trent Edwards consistently brought pressure. Even Shaq Lawson picked up a sack. Deshaun Watson was strip-sacked multiple times and lost the ball multiple times.
The only way to lose to Buffalo is to turn the ball over multiple times. Houston did exactly that. And those turnovers culminated in a Zay Jones double move touchdown thrown by none other than Nathan Peterman.
Houston had a rebuttal. They faced a game-winning touchdown drive attempt. A looooing heave to Will Fuller V put the ball at the one yard line thanks to multiple defensive penalties while the ball was in the air. First and goal from the one became third and three and a half after two lousy run plays. A false start made it third and nine and a half. Deshaun Watson dodged another Jerry Hughes sack attempt, but his pass was defended at the goal line.
The Bills got their turn. Nathan Peterman threw a pick-six. The world continues to spin. Houston wins another stupid, stupid, stupid football game.
The Texans are now 3-3. They play Jacksonville next week.
