Let’s continue onwards thinking about what has happened before we go back to thinking about what is happening and what will happen this week by grading the Texans’ defense.

The Texans have allowed 184 points this year, which comes out to 20.4 a game. They rank seventh in points allowed without including the bye week at the moment. They’ve forced 15 turnovers and rank 9th in football. According to Football Outsiders, they’re 3rd in defensive DVOA at -10.4%, 15th in pass defense DVOA at 4.9%, and 1st in run defense DVOA at -31.4%. They also have a pressure rate of 29.7% (14th) and have an adjusted sack rate of 7.2% (18th).

Individually J.J. Watt has 25 pressures, 9 sacks, 16 quarterback hits, and 11 tackles for a loss. Jadeveon Clowney has 20 pressures, 5.5 sacks, 13 quarterback hits, and 10 tackles for a loss. Kareem Jackson, Tyrann Mathieu, and Justin Reid each have 2 interceptions, Watt has forced 5 fumbles, Jadeveon Clowney has recovered 2, and Benardrick McKinney leads the team in tackles with 65.

I’m not here to give my opinion. I want to hear yours. What grade would you give the Texans’ defense through the first nine games of the season?
