The Houston Texans had one of the worst secondaries in football last season. Andre Hal was the only competent player on the roster. Marcus Gilchrist, whoever else played strong safety, Kareem Jackson, Johnathan Joseph, Kevin Johnson, and whoever that guy was with braids that got burned or was called for a penalty on every play combined with a sad pass rush to be one of the worst pass defenses in football. With Whitney Mercilus and maybe J.J. Watt coming back, the Texans’ front seven should be better. But the front office has to upgrade the secondary this spring.
Houston will have the cap space to do it. Hopefully they spend next month, making cuts and tossing what they have at offensive line and the secondary. In a way, it kind of has already started. Free agent defensive back David Amerson is a February free agent and he visited Houston yesterday.
Free agent CB David Amerson, a rare veteran available in February, is visiting the #Texans today, source says. He’s got 3 more visits this week after that one, had a full week last week.

If you didn’t know, Amerson is a former second round pick of the Washington Redskins. He played for the Raiders last year and had 17 tackles. Houston, Chicago, and San Francisco are all interested in signing him.
