According to John McClain, Shane Lechler is one of the notable players cut during the final round of cuts to get to the 53-man roster.

Lechler’s departure clears the way for Tennessee rookie Trevor Daniel to claim the starting punter job in Houston.
Lechler joined the Texans as a young 37 year-old back in 2013 to be closer to his East Bernard home. He has punted for the Texans for the past five seasons.
During his Houston career, Lechler continued to be one of the stronger punters in the league as he continued his Hall of Fame pace. Now, at age 42, Lechler is a free agent who will look for work elsewhere before deciding to call it a career.
Lechler said last night after Dallas game he won’t retire if Daniel was kept. Lechler is coming off an excellent season and punted well in camp and preseason.

Dozens of other teams may take another look at their situation to see if Lechler can provide an upgrade from their current punter. But for Houston, the team has passed the punting torch on to a rookie.
